Good news from LTC 2009 and SAC 2010

In the last days I’ve been notified of two accepted papers!

The first one “Enhancing Opinion Extraction by Automatically Annotated Lexical Resources” is a study on the effects of using sentiment-oriented lexical resources in order to enrich text representation, with a special focus on automatic opinion annotation.
It is a work for Fabrizio Sebastiani and me, and it will be presented at the 4th Language and Technology Conference, in Poznan, Poland.

The second one is a work from Stefano Baccianella, Fabrizio Sebastiani, and me.
The title is “Feature Selection for Ordinal Text Classification”, and it proposes a number of feature selection methods specifically designed for the problem of performing ordinal text classification.
It will be presented at the 25th Symposium On Applied Computing, in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on March of the next year.

Good news from ISDA 2009 and VLDL 2009

Returning from vacation I have been greeted not by one, but two good news.

First, a paper from Stefano Baccianella, Fabrizio Sebastiani, and me has been accepted at the International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Applications (ISDA), which will be held in Pisa, Italy (yes, where I live).
The paper presents a study on Evaluation Measures for Ordinal Text Classification, proposing a measure of Macro-Mean Average Error, which we think is better suited (with respect to the usually adopted mean average error measure) to evaluate ordinal regression experiments in case on highly unbalanced data distribution.
The presence of unbalanced data distribution is a relatively common case in ordinal text classification, e.g., star-like scores assigned to products in products reviewers are typically highly skewed toward all-star ratings.

Second, a paper from Paolo Bolettieri, Fabrizio Falchi, Claudio Lucchese, Raffaele Perego, Fausto Rabitti and me has been accepted at the Second Workshop on Very Large Digital Libraries (VLDL), which will be held in Corfu, Greece.
The paper summarizes the relevant aspects of experience of building the CoPhIR collection.

Good news from LSDS-IR 2009

The workshop on Large-Scale Distributed Systems for Information Retrieval (LSDS-IR), which will be part of SIGIR 2009 has accepted my paper on the PP-Index, the approximated similarity search data structure on which the MiPai image search system is built.

The title of the paper is: PP-Index: Using Permutation Prefixes for Efficient and Scalable Approximate Similarity Search.

This is the abstract:
