Good news from LSDS-IR 2009
The workshop on Large-Scale Distributed Systems for Information Retrieval (LSDS-IR), which will be part of SIGIR 2009 has accepted my paper on the PP-Index, the approximated similarity search data structure on which the MiPai image search system is built.
The title of the paper is: PP-Index: Using Permutation Prefixes for Efficient and Scalable Approximate Similarity Search.

The official announcement:
Stefano Baccianella, of ISTI-CNR, is the winner of the 2009 “Franco Denoth Award“. The award, now at its first Edition, is granted by Fondazione Franco ed Enrico Denoth to the best MSc thesis obtained from the University of Pisa from 1.1.2008 to 30.4.2009, and dealing with issues related to the development of the Internet. Stefano’s thesis, titled “Multi-Facet Rating of Online Hotel Reviews: Issues, Methods and Experiments”, was supervised by Andrea Esuli and Fabrizio Sebastiani,both of ISTI-CNR. Stefano is currently pursuing a PhD in Information Engineering at the University of Pisa.
